Evangelism, sharing the Good News about God and us, is a love story.
God loves us. The writers of Scripture tell us ‘God so loved the world’ and ‘God is love.’ One writer describes this love as ‘patient and kind,’ ‘not easily angered,’ and ‘keeping no records of wrongs.’
The word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus came to show us what God looks like and acts like. God came to us to fill all of our senses with love.
In this love story, God sees us, knows us, and loves us. And we are invited to see, know, and love God.
And God wants us to do the same for others.
God wants us to be as forgiving and loving towards others as God has been with each of us. ‘Love one another as I have loved you.’ ‘Forgive others as I have forgiven you.’ ‘in the same way you judge others, you will be judged…’
When we live the way, we become the embodiment of God’s love in the world.
Each of us, when we are loving and forgiving, make God real.
We tell this love story to all the people with whom we come in contact.
Do not be mistaken, this is not an easy love.If we love as God loves we will love the other…the one who doesn’t look, act, or think like us.
It is a love which can make others angry because the door is opened for the ‘wrong’ people.
You know, just like Jesus.
That is love. That is evangelism.
