We can teach about discipleship in a classroom setting. Does that knowledge, however, transfer into becoming a disciple. The founder of the Sandler Sales System, David Sandler, wrote a book entitled, “You Can’t Teach a Kid to Ride a Bike at a Seminar : The Sandler Sales Institute’s 7-Step System for Successful Selling.” The title says it all, I think.
Maybe that is why I am drawn to Hauerwas’s article. Discipleship is not something we can learn in a classroom. Anyway, here is the article. I trust you will enjoy it and be challenged by his ideas.

Thanks, Dave. This article reminds me of a section in Dallas Willard’s book where discusses the idea of dropping the term “Christian” in favor of the term “apprentice”. He challenges us to ask ourselves, “Are we following Jesus around, learning to do what he did?”
