Helping Jesus get to his drug test

I was waiting in traffic to make a left turn toward where I will be working for the month of August. On the South end of the intersection was a young man half walking, half running. He had a cell phone to his ear and looked a bit panicked. As he sprinted across the intersection, I made my turn. But there was something bothering me about his guy.

He kind of looked like a guy that was given instructions on how to rescue his wife and child from a kidnapper and was told he had to get to a certain address in 15 minutes or his loved ones would die. Okay, maybe he didn’t look that panicked. Something was wrong and it wouldn’t let go of me. I made a u-turn and pulled into the parking lot he had just walked/ran through. I honked my horn.

He had a nice smile. I asked him if he needed any help. He got in the car and told me where he was going. He said that he was on his way to ‘drop’ for a drunk driving offense and needed to get to the location by 9. I don’t know if he would have made it on time given the distance he had yet to go.  We talked for the couple of minutes he was in the car. He told me I was a life-saver. He asked God to bless me. I asked him if he needed a ride back to work. He was good, he said. I drove back to the office.

I have picked up more than my share of hitchhikers in my life. I have stopped to offer assistance at accidents, flat tires, and drove a few people to get gas when they ran out. But this time was different. This was the first time I ever felt like I was in the presence of Jesus.

I started thinking about how many times we miss Jesus just because we are too busy to notice.

Have you ever entertained angels? I’m pretty sure I did that day.
